The role of a Champion is flexible so anyone can commit as much time or as little time as they wish. For some this might just be learning more about cancer screening programmes and signs and symptoms of cancer, so they can share this information in everyday conversations with their family, friends, colleagues and community members. Others might wish to take advantage of Answer Cancer’s training opportunities and get involved in activities such as making a radio show, public speaking or working on creative campaigns.

Answer Cancer has a team of staff dedicated to supporting Champions. Answer Cancer Champions receive full training, starting with information on cancer but also on other topics including community research, digital engagement, and facilitation. We encourage Champions to be creative, and Answer Cancer staff are there to support Champions and help their ideas become a reality.

As well as individuals, Answer Cancer also works with organisations to share cancer awareness messages in the communities they work with. We are particularly keen to work with organisations who support BAME people, carers, disabled people, the LGBTQ community, those experiencing poor mental health, and individuals on a low income. These groups have particularly low levels of engagement with cancer screening services, and this is something which we need to improve.
